Our Ministry Team

Brown Family

Basque Outreach

We feel so blessed to be living in San Sebastian! We followed God’s call on our lives to relocate here to partner with Crossroads GI for Basque Outreach. We are a family focused on following the will of God, striving for unity in all aspects of life, and to share our story and the love of Christ with others.

We began dating in Port Neches-Groves High School in Southeast Texas. After getting married while Mandy was finishing her graduate work, we lived in the Austin area for 10 years and welcomed our two daughters into our family. A new job opportunity brought us to Oregon where we were introduced to the Basque Country and began to feel our hearts softening towards moving here. We arrived in July of 2019 and are excited to see how God is moving here.

Who we are:

Sampie – After more than 20 years working in the high-tech field, Sampie brings his passion for problem-solving and helping others into a multicultural context. He enjoys tinkering with anything electronic and all things related to sports.

David Upchurch

Sports Camp & Outdoors

David has served on a church staff for more than 30 years and even before those years of service he went on many mission trips. Like many pastor’s kid, he grew up hearing all about Christ and forgiveness–he even walked an aisle to “receive Christ” as a child–however, it wasn’t until many years later, while on a mission trip as a teenager, that he truly gave his life to Jesus.  For this reason, he is a firm believer in missions and evangelism.

He joined Crossroads Global in 2020 and has a passion for leading trips that involve sports and the outdoors. For the last 8 years he has led trips to Germany where the mission team put on a baseball camp for kids through a partnership with a local church. And there are plans in the future for similar camps in other places and countries.

He has received degrees from Baylor University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and most recently Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.   His life verse is  — “For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that those who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose on their behalf.”

David married his high school sweetheart, Kendra, and they have three adult children, Aiden, Bryson, and Corinne.
